Ingredients

  • 1.5 lbs chicken thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • Oil for frying
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce (for the sauce)
  • 1/3 cup rice vinegar
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp sesame oil
  • 2 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp water (slurry)
  • Green onions and sesame seeds for garnish

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, mix cornstarch, flour, baking powder, water, soy sauce, and garlic powder to make a batter.
  2. Coat chicken pieces in the batter.
  3. Heat oil in a deep skillet and fry chicken pieces until golden and crispy. Remove and set aside.
  4. In a saucepan, combine soy sauce, rice vinegar, sugar, and sesame oil. Heat until sugar dissolves.
  5. Stir in the cornstarch slurry and simmer until the sauce thickens.
  6. Toss fried chicken in the sauce until fully coated.
  7. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds before serving.
