Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water (110°F)
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup evaporated milk
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 4 large egg yolks
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3 1/2 to 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast in warm water and let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
  2. Add sugar, evaporated milk, melted butter, egg yolks, and salt. Mix until combined.
  3. Gradually stir in flour, 1 cup at a time, until a soft dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough on a floured surface for 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise for 1 to 2 hours or until doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the dough and roll it out into a rectangle. Cut into 8-10 long strips.
  7. Roll each strip into a coil, tucking the ends underneath.
  8. Place rolls on a greased baking sheet, cover, and let rise for another 30–45 minutes.
  9. Bake at 350°F for 15–20 minutes or until lightly golden.
  10. Cool slightly and generously dust with powdered sugar before serving.
