Ingredients

For the Gyro Meat

  • 1 lb ground lamb
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely grated
  • 3 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tsp dried oregano
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • 1 tsp ground coriander
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper

For the Tzatziki Sauce

  • 1 cup Greek yogurt
  • 1 cucumber, grated and drained
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp lemon juice
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 tbsp fresh dill, chopped

For the Gyro Assembly

  • 6 pita bread rounds
  • Sliced tomatoes
  • Sliced red onions
  • Chopped lettuce

Instructions

Prepare the Gyro Meat

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix the ground lamb, ground beef, grated onion, minced garlic, oregano, cumin, coriander, salt, and pepper until well combined.
  3. Shape the meat mixture into a loaf and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Bake for 45-50 minutes or until fully cooked. Let the meat cool slightly before slicing thinly.

Make the Tzatziki Sauce

  1. In a bowl, combine Greek yogurt, grated cucumber, minced garlic, olive oil, lemon juice, salt, and dill.
  2. Mix well and refrigerate until ready to serve.

Assemble the Gyros

  1. Warm the pita bread in a pan or microwave.
  2. Layer the sliced gyro meat, tomatoes, red onions, lettuce, and tzatziki sauce onto the pita bread.
  3. Fold the pita into a wrap and serve immediately.
